AAUW-Dearborn is closely involved with the following area organizations or businesses with whom we share goals and activities.  Our commitment to sharing our mission with them strengthens our connection with the Dearborn  community and surrounding cities.  We acknowledge and appreciate their support.

What is Community Outreach?

Community Outreach is a program where our affiliate interacts with our community in ways that support and enhance the mission of  AAUW-Dearborn.  All of these connections reflect the mission of our organization to advance gender equity for women and girls through research, education and advocacy.  Support is through free will offerings from branch members.

“Drive By” Baby Shower Henry Ford Hospital

As AAUW-D  and community members, we have generously made  free will donations for a “Baby Shower” for disadvantaged newborns at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit for the last three years.  We began doing this at the request of the Detroit Club of the National Association of Negro Business and Profession Women’s Clubs, INC.  Items may be donated at our March General Meeting/Program at the museum and are then delivered to the hospital for use by infants of families in need of support. Requested  are new and unwrapped infant sized car seats, portable cribs, receiving blankets, snowsuits, sleepers, breast pumps, and t-shirts. Monetary contributions by check may be made out to the Detroit Club-NANBPWC and will be used to purchase additional baby items.

Little Free Library 

Springwells Park – Dearborn has  welcomed a Little Free Library to their neighborhood.  This is a project courtesy of the American Association of University Women – Dearborn. The installation has been completed and the Little Free Library has been installed in Springwells Park between Eastham and Duxbury.
Two additional Little Free Library boxes have been installed since the Spring of 2024. Locations are in in Springwells Park on Brewster Road  and at the  Dearborn Indoor Skating Center (DISC) located at Ford Road and Greenfield.

Literacy Initiatives

 The public is invited to help us support women and girls by donating to our public community outreach and other activites. Additional support of various literacy programs is also welcomed. Non-members may participate by volunteering to help by sorting books, by contributing book and media donations year-round at our work and sale site, the Dearborn Ice Skating Center (DISC), by promoting and attending the annual Fall Book and Media Sales, and/or purchasing Advertising Sponsorship Signs for the sale.  Refer to this website’s Calendar of Events and Book Sale pages for more information.
