The Marge Powell Leadership Award was established in 2011. Funding for this award is provided through a portion of the profits from our Annual Used Book Sale. Free will offerings from affiliate members and the community also provide funds for the awards.
Marge Powell, one of Dearborn’s most prominent gender role models, exemplified leadership. For 14 years, AAUW Dearborn has made monetary awards to one senior in each of our three public high schools and continues to this day.
Our award is a bit unusual in that no students need apply. Instead we depend upon counselors and principals to identify and designate students who have exemplified principled leadership, integrity, and community service during their high-school careers. The honorees are most appreciative of the award and the generosity of our Affiliate and the community.
