Community Outreach

What is Community Outreach?

Community Outreach is a means where our branch interacts with our community in ways that support and enhance the mission of  AAUW – D.  All selections reflect the mission of our organization to advance gender equity for women and girls through research, education and advocacy.  Support is thru free will offerings from branch members.

DRIVE BY BABY SHOWER – Henry Ford Hospital

As AAUW-D members generously did last year, we are asking again for free will donations for a “Baby Shower” for disadvantaged newborns at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.  We are doing this at the request of the Detroit Club of the National Association of Negro Business and Profession Women’s Clubs, INC.  Items may be donated at our March 20, 2024 General Meeting/Program at the museum at 7 pm. They will be delivered to the hospital by Membership VP Debbie McBain. Needed are new and unwrapped: infant sized car seats, portable cribs, receiving blankets, snowsuits, sleepers, breast pumps, and t-shirts. Financial contributions in check form should be made out to the Detroit Club- NANBPWC to purchase additional baby items.

Duffel Bags for Foster Children

Duffle Bags for Foster children is a program sponsored by Vista Maria.  As supporters of Vista Maria, AAUW – D will be collecting new duffel bags to donate to foster children as they move to a new family.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Book Drive

In conjunction with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion program within AAUW, the board is asking for free will offerings of new children’s books written for ages 4 thru 8. They will be donated to an educational facility, library or public school in our community. This initiative also supports our literacy program.

Little Free Library

Springwells Park – Dearborn has  welcomed a Little Free Library to their neighborhood.  This is a project courtesy of the American Association of University Women – Dearborn. The installation has been completed and the Little Free Library has been installed in Springwells Park between Eastham and Duxbury.

Two additional Little Free Library boxes will be installed in the Spring  of 2024. Locations will be in Springwells Park and at the  Dearborn Community Center  – Michigan and Greenfield.

Join us and help us encourage literacy in our community.
